Chile's seasonal time adjustment will undergo its first transition of 2024 on Tuesday, April 2nd. The nation will adopt winter time, shifting clocks back by one hour to align with the reduced daylight hours.
This change is mandated by Decree 224, enacted in July 2022. The decree establishes the winter time period in Chile, which will take effect from April 2nd and continue until the transition to summer time in September. The transition to winter time will impact all 15 regions of mainland Chile.
The time change aims to optimize daylight utilization and reduce energy consumption during the shorter winter months. However, the practice has faced criticism from some who argue that it disrupts sleep and circadian rhythms.
Chileans are encouraged to adjust their clocks and electronic devices accordingly to avoid any disruptions in schedules or daily routines.
